Softball Recap: Vancleave Comes Up Short

If Vancleave was feeling good fresh off their 11-2 takedown of Hancock on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldogs took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Martin Yellow Jackets on Thursday. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellow Jackets earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

Emma Hammonds was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

Vancleave's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for St. Martin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vancleave will square off against George County at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 4, the Rebels 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for St. Martin, they will challenge East Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Yellow Jackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
