Basketball Recap: Winneconne Comes Up Short

If Winneconne was feeling good fresh off their 101-46 takedown of North Fond du Lac last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Winneconne Wolves lost to the Laconia Spartans on the road by a 83-68 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Spartans are ranked 78th).

Winneconne dropped their record down to 4-9 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.5 points per game. As for Laconia, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Winneconne will be playing at home against Kettle Moraine Lutheran at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Winneconne's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Laconia, they will venture away from home to challenge Omro at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Omro will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Laconia surely won't give up without a fight.
