Softball Recap: Illiana Christian's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Illiana Christian extended their winning streak to five on Monday, bumping their season record up to 17-7 in the process. They came out on top against the Highland Trojans by a score of 5-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Cayden Petersen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lydia VanderWoude, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. Adeline Mulder was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

As for Highland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Highland's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alyssa Niemann, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illiana Christian will square off against Andrean at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Highland, they will take on Griffith at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
