Volleyball Recap: Niobrara/Verdigre Comes Up Short

Niobrara/Verdigre was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Boyd County Spartans. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the Spartans from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Niobrara/Verdigre started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-16, 25-18.

Despite the defeat, Niobrara/Verdigre saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lynae Nielsen had 15 digs. Nielsen has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last five times she's played.

Boyd County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Reiman, who had 14 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Reiman has posted over her last five matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla McCarthy, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Niobrara/Verdigre's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Boyd County, their record now sits at 7-9.

Niobrara/Verdigre didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Wausa on the 2nd. As for Boyd County, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Burke on the 2nd.
