Recap: IMG Academy White Ascenders vs. Mater Brickell Academy Bulls
On Saturday, IMG Academy White was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-39 to Mater Brickell Academy. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as IMG Academy White came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Mater Brickell Academy is ranked 553rd).
Mater Brickell Academy found their leader in underclassman Antonio Medina, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Kwabena Jones, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
IMG Academy White's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Mater Brickell Academy, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
IMG Academy White will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on The Villages Charter at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Mater Brickell Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Westwood Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Westwood Christian will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
