Baseball Game Preview: Waterloo Cougars vs. Covenant Christian Eagles

Waterloo hasn't had much luck against Covenant Christian recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Waterloo has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Waterloo lost 15-4 to Alcorn Central on Friday.

Landon Fox was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Thursday. Covenant Christian took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Lawrence. Covenant Christian has struggled against East Lawrence recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Carter Basinger made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Niven Gillis, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Covenant Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Waterloo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

Waterloo got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Covenant Christian by a conclusive 15-5 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
