Baseball Recap: Red Level Tigers vs. Kinston Bulldogs
After flying high against Greenville last Monday, Red Level came back down to earth. The Red Level Tigers fell just short of the Kinston Bulldogs by a score of 9-8 on Thursday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.
Buddy Griffin put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in February of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in triples (two).
In other batting news, Brock Skipper stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Grayson Hodges was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Red Level's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Kinston, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-1 record.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Red Level is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Baker at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Kinston, they will square off against McKenzie at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
