Football Recap: Jake Brown and Carson Christian Secure Win for Northwest

Northwest hadn't done well against Portsmouth West recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mohawks blew past the Senators 36-13. The game marked the Mohawks' most dominant win of the season.

Leading Northwest to victory were Carson Christian and Jake Brown. Christian gained 274 total yards and three touchdowns, while Brown rushed for 137 yards and one TD. Christian really tore up the turf during one magnificent 71-yard run.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Northwest was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 323 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Portsmouth West lost, don't look at Anthony Bishop. Despite the final result, he rushed for 126 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Bishop's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 126 rushing yards.

Northwest has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.5 points over those games. As for Portsmouth West, they moved to 4-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Northwest will head out on the road to challenge Waverly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mohawks will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.88 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Portsmouth West, they will face off against Oak Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
