Softball Recap: Mount Notre Dame Makes It Four in a Row at Home

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mount Notre Dame had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Anderson Raptors as they made off with a 12-2 win. Mount Notre Dame might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Audrey Gildea spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mount Notre Dame let McKenna Manley and Kat Zielinski run wild. Manley went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI, while Zielinski went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave Manley a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Savanna Gault, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Mount Notre Dame was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .543. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive games.

Mount Notre Dame pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Anderson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-11.

Coming up, Mount Notre Dame will take on Centerville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Anderson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
