Volleyball Game Preview: Shelton Gaels vs. Cheshire Rams

The Shelton Gaels will head out to challenge the Cheshire Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Shelton will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Shelton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Xavier, who was ranked 24th at the time (Shelton was ranked sixth). The Gaels blew past the Falcons 3-0 on Monday.

While Shelton might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Xavier scored at least 19 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 26-24, 25-19.

Meanwhile, Cheshire made easy work of Amity Regional on Friday and carried off a 3-0 victory.

One reason for the win was Cheshire's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-18, 25-13.

Cheshire is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Shelton, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Shelton beat Cheshire 3-1 in their previous meeting on May 5th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gaels since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
