Baseball Recap: Onaga Comes Up Short

Onaga lost against Frankfort on Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Buffaloes fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-3. That's two games in a row now that the Buffaloes have lost by exactly two runs.

Jackson Kolterman was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Kolterman wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Keagan Venneberg, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Onaga and nudges their season record down to 6-6. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for Frankfort, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Onaga will welcome Valley Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Buffaloes are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Frankfort, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Doniphan West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Wildcats have won six straight at home dating back to last season, while the Mustangs won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
