Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Stonington

Stonington posted their closest win since January 30, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-60 victory over the East Greenwich Avengers. The win was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 87th in Connecticut, while the Avengers are ranked 30th in Rhode Island).

When it comes to explaining why East Greenwich lost, don't look at Rees Maccarone. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points. The contest was Maccarone's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Dante Desmarais was another key player, putting up 13 points.
