De La Salle faced Junipero Serra in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Spartans walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Padres. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cooper Barnes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Niko Baumgartner was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Brandon Vargas was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
