Football Recap: South Eugene Axe vs. North Eugene Highlanders
South Eugene was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost 27-6 to the North Eugene Highlanders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Axe of the 43-40 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2023.
North Eugene was led to victory by D'Mariyae Ireland and Brody Gilliam. Ireland rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, while Gilliam threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance gave Gilliam a new career-high in rushing yards.
South Eugene's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for North Eugene, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
