Baseball Recap: Union Catholic Starts off Right with Win over Union

Union Catholic gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Union Farmers with a sharp 9-2 victory. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Farmers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Nick Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Anderson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other pitching news, Ryan Conlon tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Chris Wilson, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Josiah Shapre was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Union is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Union Catholic will square off against Cranford at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Vikings their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Union, they are taking a road trip to take on Newark Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
