Oswego East and Oswego are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Oswego East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Yorkville hit Oswego East with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wolves took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Foxes.
Danielle Stone was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sammy Herrick, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Oswego waltzed into their game on Monday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They never let the Indians get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 22 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Jaelynn Anthony made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Kiyah Chavez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Adalynn Fugitt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
Oswego kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.
Oswego pushed their record up to 30-1 with the victory, which was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Oswego East, their loss dropped their record down to 18-13.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oswego East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Oswego struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Oswego East might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Oswego in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
