Basketball Recap: Zoey Miller's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wilson over South Florence

Wilson has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the South Florence Bruins. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bruins earlier this season, when they won 43-32.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zoey Miller, who posted 19 points and three steals. Miller has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of LeaNISSA Swinton, who earned nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Wilson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Harmony Bostick was her usual excellent self, putting up 19 points in addition to eight boards and four steals for South Florence. Amari Gamble was another key player, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Wilson's loss dropped their record down to 16-7. As for South Florence, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Wilson and Darlington will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Wilson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. As for South Florence, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Crestwood at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
