Volleyball Game Preview: Maloney Spartans vs. Enfield Eagles

The Maloney Spartans will face off against the Enfield Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Maloney will be strutting in after a victory while Enfield will be coming in after a loss.

Maloney took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They blew past Putnam 3-0. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Clippers: they've now won three in a row.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Maloney was: they took every set by at least 11 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-14, 25-12.

Meanwhile, Enfield faced Hall in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles lost 3-0 to the Titans. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Enfield was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.

Enfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Maloney, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1.

Maloney was able to grind out a solid win over Enfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 3-1. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
