Basketball Recap: Geren Knight's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Calvary Christian Academy over Paw Paw

Calvary Christian Academy lost against Paw Paw back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Calvary Christian Academy fell 62-54 to the Paw Paw Pirates. While losing is never fun, Calvary Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 250th in Maryland, while Paw Paw is ranked 118th in West Virginia).

Calvary Christian Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Geren Knight, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Knight is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Riley O'Brien, who posted 12 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Calvary Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 33 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Donavan Tanouye continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Paw Paw, dropping a double-double with 31 points and ten rebounds. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Tanouye has scored at least a third of Paw Paw's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan D, who had eight points and nine boards.

Calvary Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Paw Paw, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-12.

Calvary Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-57 defeat against Bishop Walsh on the 14th. As for Paw Paw, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 42-34 loss against Berkeley Springs on the 14th.
