Baseball Recap: Incline Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Incline had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 10-5 win over the Battle Mountain Longhorns on Saturday. This was a revenge game for the Highlanders: when they faced off against the Longhorns on Friday, they had to take a 6-5 loss.

Colton Barraza made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. He is becoming a predictor of Incline's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Barraza was also big at the plate, scoring a run.

In other batting news, Tate Gitchell and Leo Dukes did most of the damage at the plate: Gitchell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Dukes scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Incline is undefeated when Dukes posts two or more runs, but 0-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ace Zendner, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Incline's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Battle Mountain, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Incline beat Battle Mountain by a score of 10-5 later that day.
