Baseball Game Preview: Spring Valley Timberwolves vs. Nitro Wildcats + Official Tickets

The Spring Valley Timberwolves will venture away from home to face off against the Nitro Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Spring Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Spring Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Hurricane, who was ranked eighth at the time (Spring Valley was ranked 18th). The Timberwolves fell 11-7 to the Redskins on Wednesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 27, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Jack Shumaker was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Shumaker was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Jake Vanarsdale was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Nitro's offense. They fell just short of PikeView by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday.

Spring Valley's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-6. As for Nitro, their record is now 9-6.

Spring Valley skirted past Nitro 6-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2016. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
