Baseball Recap: Christ the King Comes Up Short

Christ the King fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Corvian Community on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 back in March.

James Lilly was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, James Phillips was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Christ the King is 2-1 when Phillips posts two or more runs, but 6-12 otherwise. Jimmy Tamuccio was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Christ the King's record now sits at 8-13. As for Corvian Community, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Christ the King will square off against Charlotte Country Day School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Corvian Community, they will take on Lake Norman Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season.
