Softball Recap: Vardaman Wins Going Away Against Shannon

Vardaman had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Shannon on Wednesday. The Vardaman Rams were the clear victor by a 17-7 margin over the Shannon Red Raiders. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Addi Lucius made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She also put up two walks, which were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Vardaman got a massive performance out of Maggie Edmondson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Edmondson has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Presley McGreger, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Vardaman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Vardaman is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. Shannon is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Coming up, Vardaman will square off against Bruce at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Shannon, they will take on Amory at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
