Softball Game Preview: Sterling Golden Warriors vs. Geneseo Maple Leafs

The Sterling Golden Warriors are taking a road trip to square off against the Geneseo Maple Leafs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sterling is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Sterling came up short against Rockridge and fell 9-4.

Lily Cantu was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Marley Sechrest, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Geneseo's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Rock Island by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Maple Leafs have suffered since April 20, 2024.

Geneseo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kyah Newell, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Geneseo's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 11-5. As for Sterling, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sterling hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Geneseo struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
