Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valley View). They escaped with a win on Friday against the Grulla Gators by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. This was a revenge game for the Tigers: when they faced off against the Gators back in January, they had to take a 35-31 loss.

When it comes to explaining why Grulla lost, don't look at Ailani Lopez. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points. That was a full 41.7% of Grulla's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Kaylee Leal was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Valley View's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-15. As for Grulla, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season.
