Basketball Recap: Mattoon Comes Up Short

Mattoon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by the Mt. Zion Braves 79-50. While losing is never fun, the Greenwave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 515th, while the Braves are ranked seventh).

Mattoon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Mt. Zion, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mattoon will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pana at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Mt. Zion also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Glenwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
