Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kalten Guerra and Robert Gutierrez Lead Smithson Valley to Victory

Smithson Valley hadn't done well against Boerne-Champion recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Smithson Valley Rangers secured a 60-56 W over the Boerne-Champion Chargers. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 78-70 back in January.

Smithson Valley was led to victory by Robert Gutierrez and Kalten Guerra. Gutierrez went 6-for-7 en route to 18 points, while Guerra posted 11 points and six assists. The dominant performance gave Gutierrez a new career-high in points. Carson Moreno was another key player, putting up nine points.

Smithson Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Boerne-Champion lost, don't look at Logan Scott. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-13 to rack up 20 points along with eight boards and five steals. Luke Sorensen also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

Smithson Valley's record now sits at 11-15. As for Boerne-Champion, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 22-13.

As of now, neither Smithson Valley nor Boerne-Champion have any future games scheduled.
