Softball Game Preview: Prattville Lions vs. Wetumpka Indians

The Prattville Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Wetumpka Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Prattville is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Prattville fell victim to Central and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Red Devils, falling 6-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Lions were not able to get on the board.

Kam Cord was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Wetumpka sidestepped Elmore County for a 3-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Sophie Arant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bailey Carlise, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 12 matchups.

Wetumpka pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Prattville, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Prattville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Wetumpka struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Prattville suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Wetumpka in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Prattville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
