Baseball Recap: Lake Forest Wins Going Away Against Indian Trail

Lake Forest had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 13-16 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Indian Trail Hawks 10-3. The Scouts' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last three games.

Lake Forest let Jack Lamberti and Ryan Valentincic run wild. Lamberti went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while Valentincic went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Valentincic has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bink Hartline, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Lake Forest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

As for Indian Trail, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this contest were averaging 3.89 runs allowed.

On Indian Trail's side, Cameron Bentz was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Bentz has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Indian Trail saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Zeller, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Nick Beth also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Coming up, Lake Forest will be playing in front of their home fans against Mundelein at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Indian Trail, they are taking a road trip to face off against Franklin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
