League recap: Ridgway/Johnsonburg stuns Brockway in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Ridgway/Johnsonburg, who defeated 303rd ranked Brockway, 40-20.

Elk County Catholic's Mitchell Smith rumbled for the longest rushing play in Allegheny Mountain - Southern this season in his game against St. Joseph's Catholic Academy last week. Smith scampered for 56 yards on the play and finished with 54 on the day as his team fell to the Wolves.

Kane's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kevin Cleer threw for 258 and 4 touchdowns and Jeff Kocjancic had 171 yards receiving. On the ground John English contributed 77 yards. Logan Zuzek helped Kane's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.

Ryan Childs made the biggest impact on defense this week as Elk County Catholic lost to St. Joseph's Catholic Academy. The 6-foot-6 senior.

He went 13-16 with 0 interception.

Kocjancic was the best wideout in the league this week as the Wolves defeated Curwensville. Kocjancic racked up 7 receptions for 171 yards. Zuzek helped Kane's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Kocjancic. The Kane star has 29 catches for 485 yards.

Next week's game between the Rovers and the Golden Tide will feature a good passing match up as Alec Shaffer-Doan will test his arm against Jake Stiles's defensive ability. Brockway's Shaffer-Doan has recorded 1,196 yards and 15 touchdowns this year, while Curwensville's Stiles has 3 interceptions to his name.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Andy Evanko's team takes on Frank Zocco's team. The Golden Tide are in second place, while the Rovers are in fourth place.

Adding to the longest winning streak in Allegheny Mountain - Southern this week, Kane beat Curwensville 42-8. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
