Softball Preview: Escondido Charter Tigers vs. Mt. Carmel Sundevils
The Escondido Charter Tigers will take on the Mt. Carmel Sundevils in a tournament on Wednesday. Escondido Charter will be strutting in after a win while Mt. Carmel will be coming in after a defeat.
It was a proper cat-fight when Escondido Charter took on Steele Canyon on Tuesday. Escondido Charter blew past Steele Canyon 11-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Natalya Powers and Zaliyah Jones did most of the damage at the plate: Powers scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Jones went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. What's more, Powers posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Rose Gomez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Escondido Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steele Canyon only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel suffered their biggest loss since March 27, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Mater Dei Catholic, falling 8-0. The Sundevils have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Having lost for the first time this season, Mt. Carmel fell to 2-1. As for Escondido Charter, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Escondido Charter might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Mt. Carmel in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Escondido Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
