Softball Recap: Powell Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

While Powell's win against Hardin Valley Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers skirted past the Hawks 2-1. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.

Emily Jeffers tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Powell saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaylan Heatherly, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. Emersyn Mayes was another, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Powell is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hardin Valley Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-20.

Looking ahead, Powell will challenge Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hardin Valley Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' game: after the Panthers face off against the Wildcats, they'll take on Hardin Valley Academy again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
