Softball Preview: Forbes Road vs. Shade Panthers
Forbes Road is 0-4 against Shade since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Forbes Road will face off against the Shade Panthers at 3:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Forbes Road headed into their last match having not scored more than two runs for seven straight, but Hancock let them put that streak behind them. Forbes Road had just enough and edged Hancock out 12-11. Considering Forbes Road's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Gretchen Fleming was excellent, going 3-for-5 with four RBI. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Oakman, who went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Meanwhile, Shade put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Rockwood with a sharp 15-5 win. The victory was familiar territory for Shade who now have three in a row.
Tara Corradini was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Corradini was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, a triple, and an RBI.
In other batting news, Shade got a massive performance out of Jaedyn Krupper, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Krupper is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. Payton Maddy was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Forbes Road's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-7. As for Shade, their record is now 5-1.
