Softball Game Preview: Baldwin County Tigers vs. Spanish Fort Toros

Baldwin County is 2-8 against Spanish Fort since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Baldwin County Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Spanish Fort Toros at 7:00 p.m. Baldwin County's pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so Spanish Fort's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Baldwin County proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 20) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Saraland a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since February 22nd.

The result came thanks to Madilyn Byrd's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Baldwin County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke McGowin, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Spanish Fort is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of North Bay Haven Academy. Spanish Fort came out on top against North Bay Haven Academy by a score of 4-0.

Madison Griffith and Haley Hart did most of the damage at the plate: Griffith scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3, while Hart went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Griffith has posted since back in February.

Baldwin County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. Spanish Fort's record is now 14-3.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Baldwin County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fort struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs.
