Softball Game Preview: Dunnellon Tigers vs. West Port Wolf Pack

The Dunnellon Tigers will take on the West Port Wolf Pack at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Dunnellon fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Hernando on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Leopards by a score of 10-9. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Makayla Duncan was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over nine innings while giving up seven earned (and one unearned) runs off 15 hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Paola Velazquez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Avianna Rivera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, West Port finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They lost 11-1 to Trenton. The Wolf Pack's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

West Port's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Dunnellon, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
