Softball Game Preview: Hackley Hornets vs. Fieldston Eagles

Hackley is a perfect 5-0 against Fieldston since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Hackley has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with four straight losses, while Fieldston will come in with three straight wins.

Hackley couldn't beat Ursuline on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Hornets took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Koalas. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by exactly four runs.

Andrea Hegarty was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Hegarty wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ellie Firsenbaum, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fieldston owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They came out on top against Riverdale Country by a score of 5-0.

Hackley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Fieldston, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Hackley beat Fieldston 7-3 in their previous matchup back in April. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
