Softball Recap: Washington Comes Up Short

Washington extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-14. They lost 15-0 to the Atchison Phoenix. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 17-0 to the Phoenix when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Atchison, they now have a winning record of 6-5. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by 12 runs or more this season.

For Atchison's part, Kirrah Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Duncan has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Alondra Herrera was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Rebant, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Atchison beat Washington by a score of 20-1 later that day.
