Basketball Game Preview: Nixon-Smiley Mustangs vs. Luling Eagles

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs will face off against the Luling Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Nixon-Smiley and 13 for Luling.

Nixon-Smiley blew Stockdale out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Stockdale got their revenge. The Mustangs fell just short of the Brahmas by a score of 72-69. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 691st, while the Brahmas are ranked 1426th).

Meanwhile, Luling played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Karnes City, falling 68-47. The Eagles were down 52-31 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Luling's loss dropped their record down to 6-22. As for Nixon-Smiley, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.

Everything came up roses for Nixon-Smiley against Luling in their previous meeting back in January, as the squad secured an 81-53 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
