Holcomb has gone a perfect 4-0 against Clarkton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Hornets will take on the Reindeer at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Holcomb took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Gideon get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
Khloe Furlow was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Furlow was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI and one double. Those hits were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Chloe Coronado was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-2. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Olivia Joiner was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Holcomb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Clarkton got the win against North Pemiscot on Tuesday by a conclusive 28-8.
Like Holcomb, Clarkton also got a great game from a two-way player: Riley Plunkett. On the mound, she didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Plunkett was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Clarkton got a massive performance out of Denise Wellington, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Lyla Hernandez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Holcomb's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Clarkton, their record now sits at 1-0.
Everything went Holcomb's way against Clarkton when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Holcomb made off with a 21-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
