Recap: Desert Christian Eagles vs. North Valley Christian Academy Lions
If the Desert Christian Eagles were feeling good off their 62-17 takedown of the Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind Sentinels last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Desert Christian was the victim of a rough 84-60 loss at the hands of North Valley Christian Academy on Monday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Desert Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tyson Dobbins, who scored 18 points. Dobbins scored a full 30% of Desert Christian's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Brown, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
Bobby Rodriguez was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points and 3 assists for North Valley Christian Academy. The match was Rodriguez's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zac Ruelas, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Desert Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for North Valley Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 6-5 with that win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against St. Augustine Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th. North Valley Christian Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Baboquivari at 5:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Baboquivari will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
