If Piedmont wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Monroe, they should've done a better job of containing Janiyah Boyd. The Monroe Redhawks snuck past the Piedmont Panthers with a 62-57 win on Tuesday thanks in part to Boyd, who went 17 for 38 to rack up 43 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. The matchup was her 12th in a row with at least 18 points.

Deianna Walters was another key player, putting up five points along with six steals and five rebounds. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

Despite the loss, Piedmont saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Landry Smith dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Emily Lundquist, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 13 points.

Monroe's record is now 9-3. As for Piedmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing West Stanly the next time they take the court. Piedmont will head out to face West Stanly at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Monroe will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
