Baseball Recap: Highland Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Quartz Hill, Highland was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Knight Hawks. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.

Landon Manzano made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Manzano was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Jacob Aragon looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, Nick Gonzales was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Highland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Booterbaugh, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

The victory got Highland back to even at 4-4. As for Knight, they moved to 3-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Highland will have a chance to go back-to-back against Knight: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
