Five-star guard Tyrese Maxey of South Garland (Garland, Texas) committed to Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon, giving the Wildcats their third elite prospect in the Class of 2019 early on in the recruiting cycle.

Evan Daniels of 247Sports broke the news on Maxey's decision to head to Lexington.
Maxey averaged 22.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game as a junior at South Garland, leading the Colonels to a 36-4 record and the semifinals of the Class 6A state tournament.

He did everything he could for South Garland in a season-ending loss to Tompkins (Katy), scoring 46 points and grabbing five rebounds.

Kentucky also has Class of 2019 commitments from fellow five-star point guard Ashton Hagans of Newton (Covington, Ga.) and four-star forward DJ Jeffries of Olive Branch (Miss.). The Wildcats also landed elite Class of 2018 forward E.J. Montgomery in April.

There has been plenty written on the possibility of both Hagans and Maxey reclassifying and joining Kentucky this fall. While that remains a possibility for Hagans, Daniels reported that Maxey intends to remain in the rising senior class.

Maxey has played on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring for both Drive Nation and Houston Hoops.
