Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes a Loss

Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a hard 70-52 fall against the Pendleton Bulldogs. The Red Devils were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in February of 2021.

When it comes to explaining why Liberty lost, don't look at Kendrick Jackson. Despite the final result, he posted 23 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Welborn, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Liberty smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Pendleton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samuel Ross, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Garon Blalock, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 16 points and eight rebounds.

Liberty's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Pendleton, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-12.

Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 90-52 loss against High Point Academy on the 9th. As for Pendleton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-48 victory against Walhalla on the 14th.
