Baseball Recap: Discovery Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Discovery had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Haines City Hornets on Wednesday. The Spartans not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th.

Hunter Benjamin made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Benjamin was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Discovery: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Noah Frabotta was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Payton Ellory, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Discovery's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Haines City, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-18.

Looking ahead, Discovery will head out to challenge Lake Buena Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vipers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.27 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Haines City, they will face off against Ridge Community at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets will need to watch out since the Bolts have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches.
