Basketball Recap: Columbia Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Cooper Estep and Jeremy Jackson

Columbia Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 77-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marshall County Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Tigers are ranked 118th).

Columbia Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jeremy Jackson, who went 11 for 14 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists, and Cooper Estep, who went 10 of 14 en route to 26 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, Estep is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Myers Malone, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Marshall County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jabrae Howard, who went 10 of 14 on his way to 25 points along with five boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Howard a new career-high. Jayce Harney was another key player, going 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points and three steals.

Columbia Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Marshall County, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Columbia Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-42 win against Middle Tennessee Christian on the 6th. As for Marshall County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-40 victory against Spring Hill on the 6th.
