Baseball Recap: Fruita Monument Triumphs

Fruita Monument posted their closest victory since April 12, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past the Palisade Bulldogs 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.

Jimmy Hawkins was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Josh Weaver also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Fruita Monument was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory got Fruita Monument back to even at 7-7. As for Palisade, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fruita Monument will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Regis Jesuit at 4:15 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Palisade, they will square off against Grand Junction Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.75 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
