Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ely

Ely extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 6-3. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the North Woods grizzlies. The Timberwolves have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the grizzlies, too.

Peyton Huntington was incredible, going 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and three runs. Grace Flynn also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for North Woods, they now have a losing record of 2-3. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On North Woods' side, Zoey Burckhardt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Burckhardt has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Josie Gibson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Ely will be playing at home against Mesabi East at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Woods, they will venture away from home to square off against Mountain Iron-Buhl at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
