Basketball Preview: St. Patrick Fighting Irish vs. St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws

St. Patrick is 4-0 against the Rock-a-Chaws since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The St. Patrick Fighting Irish's road trip will continue as they head out to face the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws at 5:30 p.m. on February 8th. St. Stanislaus took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Patrick, who comes in off a win.

Last Thursday, St. Patrick got the win against the Bulldogs by a conclusive 60-40. Given St. Patrick's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Matt Krass was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of St. Patrick's points. Another player making a difference was Jack Hewes, who scored 15 points along with two steals.

Meanwhile, St. Stanislaus' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Tylertown 66-32. St. Stanislaus has not had much luck with the Chiefs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

St. Patrick is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for St. Stanislaus, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

St. Patrick didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Rock-a-Chaws in their previous matchup on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 47-43 win. Does St. Patrick have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rock-a-Chaws turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
