R.J. Barrett of Montverde Academy grabbed the nation's top honor for 2017-18.

Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized the top 50 high school boys basketball players in America.

Past honorees include 2018 NBA All-Stars Brad Beal (2011), DeMarcus Cousins (2008 and 2009), Anthony Davis (2011), DeMar DeRozan (2008), Kevin Durant (2008), James Harden (2007), Kyrie Irving (2010), Kevin Love (2006 and 2007), Karl-Anthony Towns (2014) and Kemba Walker (2008).

Selections are based on team success, individual production and local, regional and state honors from the recently-completed season. Potential at the college and professional level is not a primary consideration. Players in post-graduate and non-scholastic programs are not eligible for inclusion.

MAXPRPEPS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
R.J. Barrett, Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)

Montverde Academy (35-0) spent much of the season ranked No. 1 nationally behind Barrett, the MaxPreps National Player of the Year. He averaged 28.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.3 steals per game.

Vernon Carey Jr., University (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)

Leading No. 2 University (36-2) to its highest national ranking in school history, the 5-star junior prospect posted 26.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game against a tough schedule.

Romeo Langford, New Albany (Ind.)

Finished his high school career as Indiana's fourth all-time leading scorer with 3,002 points. The top unsigned senior guard averaged 35.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 3.3 steals per game for 25-2 New Albany.

Talented guard led Scotlandville (30-5) to its second consecutive Louisiana state championship, averaging 32.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 2.2 steals per game.

Coby White, Greenfield (Wilson, N.C.)
6-5 | Senior | Guard | North Carolina
Prolific scorer ends career as North Carolina's all-time leading scorer with 3,573 career points. White tallied 30.2 points, 10.3 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game, leading Greenfield (25-10) to the NCISAA Class 1A title contest.

Already New York's all-time leading scorer with 3,306 points, averaged 50 points per game this winter while leading Glens Falls to a 20-3 record.

The elite junior guard averaged 20.1 points, 10.7 assists and 7.7 rebounds per contest, leading Newton (27-4) to the Class AAAAAAA semifinals.

Led Orlando Christian Prep (21-9) to its seventh state title in the last 11 years, averaging 21.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Future Tar Heel won the McDonald's All-American game MVP, finishing with 28 points and five rebounds for the winning side.

Helped Spartanburg Day win its third consecutive state title, averaging 36.4 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. May have pushed for first team if not for chunk of season missed with injury.

Son of the tallest player in NBA history, Bol guided No. 8 Findlay Prep (32-5) to the GEICO Nationals semifinals, averaging 20.4 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.

Garland captured his third consecutive Mr. Basketball award while averaging 27.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Led Brentwood Academy (25-5) to its fourth consecutive state championship.

Filled up the stat sheet for John Marshall (26-3), averaging 33.9 points, 15.0 rebounds, 3.9 blocks and 3.6 assists per game.

Keldon Johnson, Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.)

Impact guard averaged 20.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per outing while leading No. 3 Oak Hill Academy to a 44-2 record.

Cam Reddish, Westtown (West Chester, Pa.)

Despite struggles this season for Westtown (20-12), the future Blue Devil played at a high level averaging 26.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The Tyus/Tre Jones Era is over at Apple Valley after a heartbreaking state finals loss. Tre averaged 22.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.8 steals per outing for the 26-5 Eagles.



Foster Loyer, Clarkston (Mich.)

Loyer will go down in Michigan lore, scoring 82 points over his final two games while leading No. 5 Clarkston (27-1) to its highest national ranking in school history. The gritty guard averaged 25.1 points, 6.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game, playing on a slightly torn meniscus for the final month of the season.

Trendon Watford, Mountain Brook (Birmingham, Ala.)

Averaged 23.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game for Alabama's Class 7A state champions, which went 32-4 and finished the season ranked No. 24 nationally by MaxPreps.

Capped his incredible season with a 47-point performance in the state championship game. Piled up 41.2 points per game this season en route to becoming Virginia's all-time leading scorer with 2,801 points.

Despite a rough start to the season, Chino Hills (26-11) ended the year on an 11-game winning streak and captured the CIF Division I state title. Okongwu averaged 28 points, 12 rebounds and nearly four blocked shots per game.
